Course Overview

Introduction to Ministry Leadership

Leadership that lasts starts from the inside.

About the Course

You can know every right fundraising tactic and still undermine it all through scarcity-driven decisions, anxiety-shaped communication, and a board that reflects your unexamined assumptions about money and provision.

Mi's Leadership topic doesn't begin with governance structures or board recruitment strategies; it begins with the leader herself.

This course introduces the concept of leading from abundance rather than scarcity, surfaces two questions that reveal more about your interior leadership state than most assessments, and previews the Board Development Plan you'll build throughout this topic—a one-year roadmap for developing a board that functions as genuine champion developers rather than passive governance providers.

Frequently asked questions

I've done leadership development before. What makes this different?

Most leadership development focuses on skills, behaviors, and systems. Mi's approach starts with identity, the beliefs, assumptions, and spiritual orientation from which all leadership behavior flows. The premise is that a leader who operates from scarcity will produce scarcity-shaped organizations, regardless of what techniques they've learned. This course helps you examine that interior layer directly, in the context of ministry leadership and fundraising specifically.

I'm not a CEO or executive director. Is this course for development staff and program leaders too?

Yes. The interior leadership principles in this course apply to anyone in a ministry leadership role, including development directors, program directors, board chairs, and senior staff. The Board Development Plan that runs through this topic is most directly useful to executive directors, but the foundational leadership concepts are universal.

Will this course ask me to do things that feel uncomfortably personal?

It will ask you to be honest with yourself. The reflection questions in this course go beneath professional performance to ask about beliefs you may have never examined directly. That said, the tone is pastoral and grace-filled, not clinical. Mi's approach to leadership development is rooted in the conviction that God is at work in the leader, not just through them, so the tone of this course reflects that.
